Last night, Saturday Aug. 7 was Family Night in Green Bay, Wisconsin and was the first Lambeau Field appearance for the 2021 Packers.
Family Night tickets are reasonably priced at $10 allowing entire families to watch their sports heros in an entertaining scrimmage game. It appeared that each child brought a friend because the stadium was full of kids decked out in green and gold and wearing rain gear. It rained heavily and at one point the stadium was emptied for nearby lightning, but Packer fans are tough and everyone stayed right to the end.
Watching on TV worked well for me!
The clock on the front of the stadium is set to 'Lombardi time'
No coach in National Football League history has ever achieved more success in less time than Vince Lombardi did during his nine seasons coaching in Green Bay.
Lombardi expected his players and coaches to be 15 minutes early to meetings and practices. If they weren’t early, he considered them “late.” So the clock is set 15 minutes ahead.
The stadium is named after Curly Lambeau, who founded the Green Bay Packers in 1919 and is credited with keeping pro football alive in Green Bay.
Packers Football is a much loved tradition in Wisconsin. The team is owned by shareholders and many fans own a share or two of their beloved team. On GameDay you can go into any Wisconsin grocery store and find all the checkout clerks wearing Packer jerseys and when the game starts there is hardly a car moving on the streets.
The term "cheesehead" began in 1985 as a derogatory term used by Illinois football fans to refer to opposing Wisconsin sports fans. Wisconsin is known as The Dairy State, and instead of being insulted, Packer fans wear cheese wedges on their heads as a badge of honor during games.
The season opener isn't until Sept. 12th against the Saints, but until then we have 3 pre-season games to give us a look at this years team!.My Chicago kids are coming next weekend and will be here to watch the first pre season game against the Texans! Packer Party at my house!
