The year is 2022 and the pandemic still causes issues with life and all the other social connections and it's starting to feel like ground hog day at this point. This is the 3rd year of this #$€¥ show but we are getting the hang of things.
Turns out I'm not too bad of a home edder as little miss is hitting all her milestones whereby she can count, spell her name, start to pronounce words and can recognise letters. I'm not sure how others feel about that but I was extremely excited learning that I haven't botched up my kids skill sets 🤣.
We had a few assessments and everything came back great, except the look I got where little miss dobbed me in about making Hydrogen with electricity and water. Apparently those things together are dangerous and she might be a little young for it but it was definitely a highlight considering she remembered it so well.
This year though it's a little harder as little miss starts prep and I'm back to feeling like I'm going to botch it up. I've already gone back to work after a short break and little miss wanted to go back to school I can't say I was too prepared for it I was letting her chill and watch T.V. but she really wanted to do some educational activities so the thing I tend to turn to the most is.... art. I find it such an imagination triggering exercise where you can incorporate a lot of different things.
Makes learning quite fun it's how we learned to spell her name through painting, how we learned numbers and pretty much everything else, except for Hydrogen of course. Although that did include drawing our experiment, writing down a list so you can say there was art still included.
The benefits of home-schooling is... well no need to get dressed if we've decided to throw together a quick class just attend in PJs 🤣 another really awesome side effect of teaching little miss throughout this entire process is I think that it lifts little bloke too.
Little bloke always looks up to his big sister even though at times they fight 😞 oh some days are challenging but most days are great. So little bloke wanted in on the art class so we added him to the table for little miss it was starting to spell some words but for little bloke it was just free for all. Getting him used to the pens and paper.
It was quite amusing as I'd spend time with little miss and Lil bloke would try to follow the instructions. He'd often look up with pride that he did what I had instructed lil miss. He says a few words now like ook which is Look. It's cute and I really enjoy his new "awake" period.
I tend to call "awake" the periods of cognitive development as kids get older they start taking in more of the world which is such an amazing thing to watch.
Little miss' current "awake" period is challenge - in that she needs to challenge everything if she doesn't get what she wants.
After spelling some three lettered words and sounding out a few syllables it was off to lunch and some physical education where we learned about the force and had lightsaber fights!
Dad had to finish off some work so I wasn't able to stick around for long little miss has got working from home down pat and gets it now so leaves me alone. She understands that dad needs to work to make money to buy more toys 🤣 no work means no money means no toys.
Lil bloke on the other hand just didn't understand why the fun had stopped and was a little upset.
Kids finally went down and one thing I've found since the pandemic is that it is hard to have a bed time routine in place. So it was a drink for dad once the kids went down.
On the topic of education I learned a new skill over the holidays and thats Martini's and cocktails.
