I think in life we all want the best for everyone and that includes our children and as time drifts on we may move away from former friend circles which can be hard at times. Spending time with people often our most youthful times together creates some really strong bonds and memories.
But at times those former or current friends may not meet our needs as we age. We all have some friends that still haven't grown up and as we grow we earn for more. Not financial but more from life and sometimes the friends and people we surround ourselves with aren't providing us with that. So through hardship we say goodbye.
My wife and I have been best friends since we were 11 and 12 years of age and throughout that time I have seen my wife grow into an amazing human being. From working the floor at a hospital which she still does daily. To now also being an elected local government councillor.
Yes if you can't tell we are members of the Australian Labor Party, I'm not hear to judge anyone's political preferences but that is the party we are aligned with. Doesn't always get it right but there are 25 million people in Australia and everyone needs to be represented and that means my views are not always going to be what the majority want. That's OK, that's what life is about. Working together.
But I'm not writing about us today, today it's about the positive role models we meet in the community as there are many amazing people that I wish I had of met earlier or known about earlier. I think that's what is lost in life as we rush about our daily lives.
That there are so many other people in our community that we don't know like the wonderful lady we met today Rasvinder Kaur. Her son passed away a number of years ago and in his honour she established the Rehmat Sandhu Foundation that supports so many people.
Living in the western suburbs of Melbourne which are predominantly working class suburbs with high disadvantage there are significant social and economic challenges and that means a lot of people suffer. Sadly this suffering is not needed as most suffering in life is caused by factors that can quite easily be resolved in my opinion.
But here we are today at a wonderful event that was part funded by local government and the local member of parliament that provided a wonderful Easter Celebration for so many kids and families that would most likely have missed out.
Watching the joy that this event brought to so many families was really special and sitting in the side lines as the faceless person blending into the crowd I can't help but be filled with pride and happiness when I hear people positively comment about the organisers and my wife.
I think were here on earth to help each other yet at times I can't feel that a lot of the issues we face are because we as humans are more destructive than supportive at times.
If one person Rasvinder can go out and start a charity and bring so much happiness to peoples lives, what's stopping the rest of us?
We need more people like her on this planet that's for sure.
I'm glad my daughter got to meet her too, lil blokes still a bit young to know what's happening but he will one day and I hope he is a better person for it.
