If you're ever exploring Melbourne's West you NEED to visit these beautiful wetlands located in Cairnlea.
A number of years ago Melbourne Water developed these open fields amongst new housing stock to provide an oasis for native animals and to act as water capture
Instead of having water run off into the storm water drains they developed wet lands. These wetlands have become a magical place and a sanctuary for native birds.
During lock down we are only allowed out for an hr a day and my 3 year old and me visit everyday for our daily exercise and nature watch.
We have watched as a number of Australian swans have built nests, laid eggs and they have hatched.
Now that we are in spring it will be mating season for pelicans and we can not wait to watch these majestic birds court their mates and birth baby pelicans.
