Oh what an absolute crap day I am having today and what a run Bella has had :( Sooooooo I went to take the rubbish out today and she did something she has never done.... ran off. The thing is I didn't know and as I had a meeting I came in grabbed my keys and took off.
3 hours later my wife calls me and asked where Bella was, I wasn't sure what she meant as I thought she was at home. I put up a lost dog post on FB in the local community and spent around 8 hrs driving, walking and searching for her.
I was scared because Bella is still recovering from surgery and needs anti bacterial and pain relief.
I called the local vet and my wife called the local vet to which they informed us that she wasn't there and no one had seen her. You'll also note that I called the vet on the 16th of April that is the date Bella first had her vaginal prolapse and she was denied help because "They weren't taking new clients".
That is actually illegal in Australia they can't deny an emergency and I would like to point out that there is new legislation that makes Vets have to call owners first instead of the pound.
The Vet didn't call me and to make things worse the times I called and my wife they told us they had not seen her which was a lie.
I was then send a screen shot that someone had found Bella, it was a neighbour a few doors down so I was ecstatic so I went and knocked on their door.
They informed me that they had walked Bella to the Vet I had called that told me that they hadn't seen her. They also told me that the Vet checked if she was microchipped and she was.
The Vet would have also known that she had recently undergone surgery because all that information is stored on her chip as well as my details. Instead of caring for her and calling me they just called the pound.
Unfortunately the pound isn't staffed after 5pm so I am going to have to wait until tomorrow morning to collect her while she misses out on her warm bed, pain relief and antibiotics.
As much as I am relieved that she is alive and well I can't help but be anxious that she is spending the night in a cold shed alone without cuddles and I don't know what she is going through.
I am also done with this vet (Aussie term for had enough) I am lodging a dispute against them, I am completely devastated that a trained professional would treat an animal like this and given they scanned her and seen she was registered to me and not call me!
That is the entire point of a microchip so you can locate the owners!
My first night in 8 years alone, without my fur baby :(
