My entry to the Amazing Nature Contest - January 2021: Nature, the giver of life

Good day @amazingnature peeps here we are another contest round which is absolutely fantastic! I love contests as they help spur my imagination and put thought into my blogs. Each entry I like to share abit more about the world around me and myself. So come with my on my walk as we explore why nature is amazing for me personally.

Nature is amazing because it provides us life, for many around the world we may have forgotten the ways of the past. But here in Australia we are relearning our Indigenous culture and finding more and more of it. Australia was only colonised by Europeans 220 years ago. We have a small population and much of the land is still untouched.

If you look hard enough you will find artefacts and remnants of the not so distant past.

The photo above is a construction made of naturally occurring stones. The alignment creates a small damn in the river in a narrow location. One part of the wall has an opening to allow water to pass. This is where you would have places a net woven of native grasses. As the fish swim down the stream they swim into the net. Those who leave the net end up in the deeper part of the man made damn. So you either catch fish and eels in the net or you can easily spear one from the damn.

The environment only 30minutes drive from Melbourne's CBD is still untouched and hopefully no development will ever occur in this location.

Along the bank you will also find what is referred to as scar trees. Where canoes were carved from the bark of the trees. Australian trees are resilient and over time will heal. But what is left are these carved out hollows that once people stood around chiselling out the perfect boats to sail their catch down river to camp. Or perhaps even creating a carrier to carry their food.

Sometimes I feel we have lost out touch with mother nature as technology advances. But every opportunity I get I return to the country often taking my daughter and soon son when he is older to teach them the past.

It can be hard living and working in a concrete jungle so detached from the world that we forget it is so fragile and often neglecting its importance.

We are only one small piece to the puzzle and if we are to ensure nature survives we must teach our children the importance of nature and to learn from it.

Nature is amazing to me because it helps me reconnect and recharge my soul.
