I want to be tired, I want to be hungry, I just want to feel something again. We’ve been in the Trials for days, maybe even weeks and we still haven’t navigated our way to the end. What happens if someone else finds the way out before us? Maybe they already have… maybe our fate is to be stranded in the trials forever, never knowing which way’s the right way.
We still haven’t come across any other unfortunate soul but we can hear them constantly. Their screams are almost comforting, it reminds us that we’re not the only ones.
Will looks upset and I can understand why. He came into the Trials looking for me and once he found me I had to tell him that I was responsible for ending his life on Earth. He doesn’t trust me anymore
and honestly I don’t blame him. Trust takes forever to build and can be ripped away in a matter of seconds, that’s something I realise now.
We haven’t had another trial in days, it’s the mazes way of taunting us. Needless to say we’re always on edge, we turn each corner with caution and prey we don’t hit another trial. It’s funny, we want to get out of the maze so badly and yet we’re too afraid to continue forward and face our next fear.
I never believed in God or other beings who ‘created us’ but now everything’s different. If only people who’re alive know what we do, I wonder if they’d do things differently. We continuously treat the Earth like crap and then get scared when it reacts, whether it’s a storm or an earthquake we never learn, we never listen. I learnt too late but I’m hoping that whoever reads this can make the changes humanity desperately needs.
It's amazing what I took for granted and how many regrets I have. I think I know what the final trial will entail and I'm more than terrified. Every passing moment I cling onto, hoping that it doesn't lead to the trial. I have Will but maybe he's not going to be enough. Maybe this time I'll fail.
Thanks for reading.
Check back in next Monday for Chapter Eleven.
Until next time,
Meliss
