As a young age, Ren had a steady penchant for combat, often sparring with his brothers. As he got older, this fierce desire to fight led him to aid in the defense of Scotland, alongside William Wallace. After William's defeat, Ren followed Robert the Bruce to the Battle of Bannockburn, and the eventual invasion of Ireland. Though the Irish proved to be more formidable than England.
Upon hearing of Edward's tournament, Ren was determined to win, so that the Scots could regain freedom, honor, and with luck, a foothold in their northern invasion.
