Bamboo is a widely used herbaceous plant with hollow stems.It is often included in the genus Bambusaceae because of its wood-like characteristics.The spread of bamboo is extremely wide.Its importance to the rural population is immense,which is used in the construction of house infrastructure,stage construction,ladders,mats,baskets,traps,handicrafts and other daily necessities.In some parts of the country,bamboo leaves are used in sheds and as cattle feed.In tropical countries bamboo has been used as a major material for making paper.Bamboo shrubs prevent wind and soil erosion.The tip of the young bamboo is suitable to eat as a delicious vegetable.Such young tips are locally known as bamboo corals.The hill tribes of the Chittagong Hill Tracts eat it in large quantities during the monsoon season.Bamboo is called the timber of the poor as it is widely used for household purposes.All species of bamboo grown in Bangladesh have dense shrubs.The middle part of the bamboo is clearly hollow,in practical terms bamboo basically means the stems, because the well-nourished stems are used in most of the work.New bamboo buds sprout from the rhizome at the beginning of the monsoon season every year.The angular tip of the young stem grows rapidly from the ground rhizome.There are bamboo bushes in every part of Bangladesh.
