Daisies for Barbie

Hello everyone!!! This is my first post in this community, some time ago @traisto had recommended it to me, but I had not found the appropriate content.

Reading your posts I found this contest: Needlework Your Barbie and I make my entry, even if I have not been invited directly, just following the open call for all Hive members.

Making doll clothes is like going back to my childhood. That's how I learned to use the sewing machine...with my mom fighting me all the time because I was splitting her needles 😆.

When I was little I never had Barbies, but I had a lot of other beautiful dolls and enjoyed dressing them up in my own way.

At home there are no toys anymore, my daughter is a teenager and the truth never preferred dolls, she liked other types of toys. So in order to participate in this contest I had to figure it out.

Did you know that there is a website that has everything about Barbies? Well, yes! BarbiePedia, I found out while doing research for this initiative. And of course, there is a table of measurements to make clothes for men.

From there I took the data to make this dress that I bring of proposal.

Hola a todos!! Es mi primer publicación en esta comunidad, hace un tiempo @traisto me lo había recomendado, pero no había encontrado el contenido apropiado.

Leyendo sus publicaciones he encontrado este concurso: Needlework Your Barbie y hago mi entrada, aunque no haya sido invitada directamente, sólo siguiendo la convocatoria abierta para todos los miembros de Hive.

Hacer ropa para muñecas es como volver a mi niñez. Así aprendí a utilizar la máquina de coser...con mi mamá peleándome todo el tiempo porque le partía las agujas 😆.

Cuando era pequeña nunca tuve Barbies, pero tuve un montón de otras hermosas muñecas y disfrutaba vestirlas a mi modo.

En casa ya no hay juguetes, mi hija es una adolescente y la verdad nunca prefirió muñecas, gustaba de otros tipos de juguetes. Así que para participar en este concurso tuve que ingeniármelas.

Sabían que existe un sitio en internet que tiene todoo sobre Barbies?? Pues sí!! BarbiePedia, me enteré haciendo investigación para esta iniciativa. Y por supuesto, hay una tabla de medidas para hacer ropa para hombre ellas.

De ahí tomé los datos para realizar este vestido que les traigo de propuesta.

From scraps of black lycra fabric I cut all the pieces. I wanted to go a little further and create my own flower print. I chose daisies, I knew they would look great on the black background. And the best part is that they are hand painted.

De unos retazos de tela licrada negra corté todas las piezas. Quise ir un poco más allá y crear mi propio estampado de flores. Escogí margaritas, sabía que quedarían muy bien sobre el fondo negro. Y lo mejor es que son pintadas a mano.

The first thing I did was to create a pattern in a software on the computer and then cut it on the cutting plotter to create a vinyl stencil. Once the stencil was ready I glued it on the skirt parts of the dress and painted with a sponge brush and white acrylic paint each flower. After it dried I removed the stencil. I loved the result 🥰. To give some volume to my flowers, I painted the center of these with dimensional yellow paint. Things were going as I had intended.

Lo primero fue crear un patrón en un software en la computadora y después calarlo en el plotter de corte para crear una plantilla o estencil en vinilo. Una vez lista la plantilla la pegué sobre las partes de la falda del vestido y pinté con brocha de esponja y acrílico blanco cada flor. Después de seco retiré la plantilla. El resultado me encantó 🥰. Para dar un poco de volumen a mis flores, pinté el centro de estas con pintura amarilla dimensional. Las cosas iban como tenía pensado.

Without a model to try on my dress, I ran the risk that it wouldn't fit the Barbie I hired to model my design, I had to rely on the data obtained from the site 😉. I couldn't wait, I was running out of time, there was sewing to be done. Facing the fabric rights, I sewed both parts of the skirt with straight stitching. Then I gathered the waistband to the 5 cm width.

Sin una modelo a quien probarle mi vestido, corría el riesgo de que no le sirviera a la Barbie que contratara para modelar mi diseño, tenía que confiar en los datos obtenidos del sitio 😉. No podía esperar, me quedaba sin tiempo, había que coser. Enfrentando los derechos de la tela, cosí ambos partes de la falda con costura recta. Luego fruncí la cintura hasta los 5 cm de ancho.

The top, an asymmetrical blouse with a gathered detail on the one shoulder and straps that would be sewn in the back, was attached to the skirt by matching the centers of both pieces. As a complement, I put a daisy button over the shoulder. I left a small opening at the waist, in the back, so that it could be easily inserted.

I was almost ready and still my Barbie model didn't arrive...how desperate...the fashion show would be in the evening 🤭.

A while later my model arrived!!!! I borrowed her from my 5 year old niece, she sent her all tousled and naked 🥴. It's not an original Barbie, it's a copy made in China, but it has the same measurements...luckily 🤪.

La parte superior, una blusa asimétrica con un detalle fruncido en el único hombro y con unos tirante que irían cosidos en la parte trasera, fue unida a la falda haciendo coincidir los centros de ambas piezas. Como complemento, puse un botón tipo margarita sobre el hombro. Dejé una pequeña abertura en la cintura, por la parte de atrás, para poder introducirlo fácilmente.

Ya estaba casi listo y aún mi Barbie modelo no llegaba..que desespero...el desfile sería en la noche 🤭.

Un rato después llegó mi modelo!!! Me la prestó mi sobrinita de 5 años, la envió toda despeinada y desnuda 🥴. No es una Barbie original, es una copia hecha en china, pero tiene las mismas medidas...por suerte 🤪.

Now...the finishing touches!!!! To give volume to the dress I made another skirt with white tulle that would go underneath it. I put the dress on her, measured and sewed the straps by hand, and put a band around the waist, knotted at the back. After two long hours, I managed to make him a hairstyle that looked pretty good to me (how bad I am at styling 😬).

Ahora...los últimos retoques!!! Para otorgarle volumen al vestido hice otra falda con tul blanco que iría por debajo de él. Le coloqué el traje, medí y cosí a mano los tirantes, y puse una banda en la cintura, anudada por detrás. Después de dos largas horas, logré hacerle un peinado que me pareciera bastante bien (que mala soy peinando 😬).

Just in time!!!...the photo session was about to begin.
