Well… It’s time for the weekly set of three tunes that will boost your mood! Let’s take a moment first and thank 
Today I decided to share some tunes which have some folklore/ethnic influence in them and some that are completely folklore based. I’ve thought a lot of time who was gonna be the third participant in my set, because I’ve got only two worthy picks for this set. Now, one of the bands I follow released a new song, so I’m gonna start with their song.
You’ll never guess who is gonna be this third band… and you may be surprised, but they are Kerana & Kosmonavtite again… 😁
Given the fact that they aren’t in the folklore genre, they are not completely suitable for today’s set, but their last song has some very interesting inclusion of Bulgarian folk motives.
Their last published song is a cover of Kelis and her famous Milkshake. I’ve heard this tune a lot of times in their live concerts, but I’ve never thought they will release a YouTube music video project of this song. First of all, there are a lot of copyright/ownership documents that have to be arranged. I think that they dealt with all of these, and the project is here. Not only it is here, but I like it a lot more than the original song.
And again… the video rules! They have interpreted the milkshake topic beautifully and the final result is awesome. Another proof that these guys work hard and think about their finished product a lot.
So… for the second pick we will visit our neighbors - Greece.
Marina Satti is a young Greek lady which has a beautiful voice. All of her songs have either a folklore motive, or are entirely newly arranged folk songs. In this particular one, although I don’t know what she is singing, there is a great use of some Balkan bagpipes which play along the main tune and the whole thing blends perfectly. The video is also a very fresh, one shot, and a very entertaining overall project. She used some local street dancers to join her and she moves quite well with all of the gang.
And after the first two, folklore influenced projects it’s time for the third one, which is a fully folklore song.
Trio Mandili
The trio is famous all over the world with the simplicity of their videos and the beautiful vibes their singing bears. You cannot smile back when seeing a video of these girls, and although they don’t have any complex editing and videography, their channel is booming! They have millions of followers and I think they have international tours too! The unique part of their videos is that they are almost entirely shot in Georgian villages. They show moments of the everyday life of Georgian villagers and take you in their spirit.
The girls are also very active in the latest events around Russia and Ukraine and did multiple donation programs, helping the ordinary people.
So what do you think? Do you like folk motives being used in modern music? I think if they are used properly, if there’s a good balance, then the overall product will be good as well!
