New week, new #threetunetuesday ! In the recent weeks I found a very unique music piece that brought great joy in me. Actually, this week I don’t have three links. I have only one that hosts three songs by the great and only Sting… you may ask now where Shaggy is in this picture. Well here he is, alongside Sting!
I would never imagine that I would find a collaboration between Sting and a rapper, or a dancehall artist like the Jamaican Shaggy, but there they are in an acoustic 3 song concert.
The first song is Englishman in New York. This may sound like the original version, but in the tiny concert Shaggy revealed a new verse with a quite unusual text.
I wear my colors in my back pocket
I got a big spliff in my hand
And you might notice there's a swag any time I walk
I'm a Jamaican in New York!
A quite typical text for Shaggy! And I have to say that I like it a lot. It gives a quite unusual sense in the original song.
A short research led me to the information that Shaggy and Sting share very similar attitude and passion towards the music and their voices seem to blend quite well and the result is pleasant for listening.
The second song that they featured in this Tiny Desk concert is “Don’t make me wait” and it was originally published by Stung and Shaggy collaboration. It has nice and sweet reggae vibes and brings a lot of positive vibes to the listener.
The third song to be performed is the hit “Shape of my heart”. This song was written as a soundtrack for the epic Leon movie from the year 1994. This seems like a whole century has passed since then and the song just keeps on bringing the same feelings and mood of the movie. This just showcases how a brilliant songwriter and artist Sting is. Shaggy doesn’t fall behind too. Although he had a rough start in the US and in the music world, his song “It wasn’t me!” Popped in every music chart in 2000. It wasn’t well recognized by the music producers, but a DJ streaming in a local radio in Oahu island played it It was just a few days later when the song was in all the parties in USA.
I hope that this set would brighten up your day!
See ya!
