It was a world record wind speed for many years. It doesn't hold that distinction anymore but I believe it is still the fastest wind speed recorded in the United States. We did not hike to the top of Mount Washington (which you can also drive up), but a wilderness near there. We could see Mount Washington at times during our hike though.
