Today, now moreso than ever, just about everyone seems to be politically engaged and has an opinion on which political party ought to be in charge and which policies ought to be enforced.
Many people believe this to be a sure sign of societal progress but, on the contrary, I would argue it is a sign of societal decay and intellectual stupor.
The world needs less political ideology and more philosophical enquiry; less politicians and more philosophers.
The political activist talks endlessly about policy, while the philosopher inquires into the very nature of political authority and asks whether such power can ever be wielded virtuously.
To summarise: Philosophise before you politicise. In fact, don't even bother with the latter. It's a complete waste of time.
