Retaining third world users: a choice between privacy and monetization
Thanks to leofinance and it's initiative to onboard users to hive blockchain with its easy sign up features couldn't afford to miss yesterday Leo AMA on Rebranding, onboarding 600+ hivers in September the turn out was quite impressive with lot of threads engagement we are making progress daily with the #zealcampaingn and thanks to those resilient hivers that kept being active during the campaign.
Choosing between privacy and monetization
Hive is a decentralized blockchain platforms that incentivise to reward authors while protecting their privacy, It empowers users by providing them with control and ownership over their content. This means that creators on hive can always have confidence that their work won't be subject to arbitrary censorship, and they can maintain a strong sense of ownership over their Proof of brain writen articles and intellectual property. The choice between privacy and monetization has become a topic of significant debate for third world users like myself when trying to onboard new users with hive being a platform that prioritizes privacy while offering monetization opportunities to authors. It is however essential to understand that most user preference can differ particularly in regions like the third world with my country Nigeria taken as case study where economic concerns often take precedence.
While its easier to introduce/onboard a user from advance countries to hive by focusing on privacy, immutability of blockchain technology and it decentralized features reverse is the case for users from developing part of the world, although some users are concerned about privacy these class of users concerned about privacy could have a bit of finance stability while the low class which dominates the country's population which are the youth seeks financial freedom in online presence the chance of onboarding these class of financial seekers to hive using words like decentralization, immutability are quite low, monetization is the key words for these users in these part of the world.
The third world perspective
While privacy is a fundamental pillar in hive, it also offers users the opportunity to monetize their content through various means. This can include earning cryptocurrency rewards for posting, curating content, and participating in the platform's ecosystem. Monetization on hive provides a financial incentive for users to engage actively, thus making it a compelling platform for content creators worldwide being a open source blockchain for anyone to connect and start earning while publishing articles makes hive awesome, fun fact is hive can not be for everyone although being open for anyone to register for third world users hive could seen as a medium to earn rewards although as they continue to explore the blockchain their view might shift from earning to being privacy focused.
The priorities of users may differ significantly due to economic challenges from those in more developed areas. For many individuals in the third world, a dollar earned from hive activities can make a substantial difference in their daily lives. In such contex the benefit of monetization can not be overlooked because it's a core factor that will attract users engagement on the blockchain.
My hive journey as a user from developing country started with the quest for financial freedom but over time I came to realise there is more to earning on the blockchain this is where I looked at the brighter side of this technology which is giving users ownership and freedom of expression to engage with users across the globe without restrictions.
For most average third world users incentive to earn on any online presence is what first trigger them into joining a platform while hive is a good place to build good financial presence there is loads of work and effort that must be done for any user to start gaining or earning on the blockchain a good question is how far are those new users willing to go without earning on the platform before they opt out because they are not getting desired results for their written contents.
Getting it right
Can third world users prioritize privacy over monetization? The answer, in many cases is not a resounding yes while privacy and content ownership are critical principles in hive blockchain the immediate need for financial stability often takes precedence in some regions.
How can we get it right?
I start buy introducing hive to my friends by telling them the hard truth, this is what I tell them you can earn by posting content online but you most put in lot of effort which includes increasing your engagement activities in the platform before you can start earning.
Telling them being on hive requires hard work, effort and consistency make them prepared for task ahead for them to put a lot of effort not sugar coating or hyping hive will make them prepared to stay long term not just because of the earnings but for long term growth of building a presence in a decentralized space.
Will love to know what your thoughts and opinion are on this topic can hive attract users from third world using its privacy features?
