Over the years crypto adoption has increased statistically which pron more threat to new users joining the crypto space, new users today are very vulnerable which make it easy for spammers/dubious users to take advantage of new users joining the blockchain technology, we must enlighten these new users so they don't fall victim to such scamming activities.
Airdrop campaign in cryptocurrency is one of the best methods of attracting users to join a particular new launch token, these make it possible for scammers to create alternative means of luring users by creating similar websites.
Although sometimes it can be hard to differentiate which is the legit website so for a start users must cross-check a website domain carefully before exploring the website an easy way to know which website is correct is by google searching the launch token name and looking it up on Coinmarketcap or Coingecko this will help the user to easily have access to the correct website domain to avoid falling for a fake website.
Above are two websites the first domain is the legit one while the second domain is a clone claiming to provide airdrop for users you can also buy the token which will be sent to you from the clone website.
The bought token will appear in either of your wallets since it requires a user to connect either their trust wallet using Dapps and smart chain BNB or ethereum to buy such token.
Take for example if a user decides to buy the above-launched token all he needs is to copy the above link address to their wallet Dapp so doing they will be redirected to place a buy order and pay using their BNB balance, the user balance of BNB will be deducted from their wallets and sent to the fake websites server wallet and in turn, you will be given a fake airdrop token worth the value of BNB you bought.
Above are screenshots of the token bought from the fake airdrop platform you can see the balance on my trust wallet app and I also tried sending 3000 ATA to my binance exchange which did not appear on my binance to date.
What am I driving at? new airdrops are launched, the majority of these airdrops are fake and will defraud users of their assets although I just used $5 to test run the airdrop some people fall for such scams and have used thousands of dollars to buy such token.
So before buying any token airdrop it's advisable to always cross-check the website domain and make sure you are buying from the legit website by looking up at coinmarketcap to get the real web domain.
Also, this is very important to make sure you lookup for the token Contract address if you can know the real contract address it will be very difficult for you to buy from a fake airdrop website.
To know how to check token contract address you can follow the link
Conclusion
Two things to watch out for are double-checked the real airdrop domain by checking up the real website on coinmarketcap and also check the contract address on etherscan checking contract address will be base on which blockchain the token was launched.
