Description
What was supposed to be a regular bike ride turned into a battle against the weather. The plan was simple: ride up to the highest point in town and follow the usual loop back home. We knew there was an active Orange wind warning for the region, but decided to give it a go anyway.
On the way up, we passed the usual rubbish dumping spot along the lower slopes and kept pedalling. As we climbed higher, the gusts became harder to handle, pushing the bike sideways and making it difficult to keep a steady line. It quickly became less about enjoying the ride and more about staying in control.
After reaching the top, we headed back down through town, where the buildings offered some shelter. From there, the route led downhill through an industrial area on the outskirts. By the time we reached the bottom, conditions had worsened enough to make continuing the loop a bad idea.
With the Orange warning still in effect, we decided not to take any unnecessary risks. We turned around, took shelter in the forest, and headed straight home to dry off and warm up. The rest of the loop could wait for another day. Sometimes, knowing when to call it quits is part of being a sensible cyclist.
