Hello Hivers! Today I want to share with you a great idea that my husband and I came up with, and that we made with scraps of wood left over from the repairs we have done to the apartment.

I have already told you in other posts that we have been doing some carpentry work in the apartment, and we had some leftover wood scraps. So we have given it some uses, making shelves, ornaments and in this particular case we made a kind of frame for the mirror in our bathroom.

Hola Hivers! Hoy quiero compartirles una idea genial que nos surgió a mi esposo y a mí, y que hicimos con retazos de madera que sobró de los arreglos que hemos hecho al apartamento.

Ya he contado en otras publicaciones que hemos estado haciendo algunos trabajos de carpintería en el apartamento, y nos ha sobrado varios retazos de maderas. Entonces le hemos dado algunos usos, haciendo repisas, adornos y en este caso en particular hicimos como una especie de marco para el espejo de nuestro baño.

To do this we cut several pieces of pine wood of different sizes, but taking into account the size of the mirror that we would then glue on the surface of those pieces of wood. Then we glued them with white wood glue on another square-shaped piece of wood, as shown in the image below.

Para hacerlo recortamos varios pedazos de madera de pino de diferentes medidas, pero tomando en cuenta la medida del espejo que luego pegaríamos sobre la superficie de esos trozos de madera. Luego los pegamos con pega blanca de madera sobre otro trozo de madera de forma cuadrada, tal como se muestra en la imagen de abajo.

The wood can be painted before gluing or when it is already glued together. We sand and paint each piece of wood before gluing. To paint we used an alcohol based stain that is fast drying and highlights the grain of the wood, one coat of stain was enough to get that dark brown color.

La madera se puede pintar antes de pegarla o también cuando ya este toda unida. Nosotros lijamos y pintamos cada trozo de madera antes de pegarlos. Para pintar usamos una tinta a base de alcohol que es de secado rápido y resalta las vetas de la madera, con una sola capa de tinte fue suficiente para conseguir ese color marrón oscuro.

We also cut three smaller pieces of wood to make a kind of shelves to place combs, brushes or some ornaments.

También cortamos tres trozos de madera más pequeños para hacerle una especie de repisas y así poder colocar peines, cepillos o algún adorno.

Then we glue the shelves to the wood and screw them to the back to give them more strength. Then we applied two coats of varnish. We let it dry for the time stipulated by the product and then we glue the mirror.

Luego pegamos las repisas a la madera y las atornillamos por detrás para darle más resistencia. Luego le colocamos dos capas de barniz. Dejamos secar el tiempo que estipula el producto y después pegamos el espejo.

Finally we screwed the hooks with which it was to be hung to the wall.

Finalmente atornillamos los ganchos con los que iba ser colgado a la pared.

I will confess that when we were screwing the hooks into the back of the wood, we broke the top of the mirror! We thought we had ruined all the work, but my husband came up with the brilliant idea of covering it with several wooden sticks that were also left over, I think that this detail gave a more elegant touch to the mirror. What do you think?

Les voy a confesar que, cuando estábamos atornillando los ganchos por detrás de la madera, partimos la parte de arriba del espejo! Pensamos que habíamos arruinado todo el trabajo, pero a mi esposo se le ocurrió la brillante idea de taparlo con varios palitos de madera que también habían sobrado, creo que al final ese detalle le dió un toque más elegante al espejo. ¿Uds. que opinan?
