A Simple Afternoon: Treat From My Mother-in-Law, A Sweet Family Moment, and Grocery Shopping
Sometimes, it’s not about how much someone spends on you, but about what they could have done with that money instead.
We have our usual routine whenever we need to buy food and other things for the house. We go to the market, buy what we need, and then continue with the rest of our errands.
But this time, my mother-in-law insisted on coming with us. So, come along as we went to the night market to buy some snacks and fish before heading to the mall for our groceries.
After we parked our e-bike, my mother-in-law suddenly asked us what we wanted for a snack. She offered to buy us burgers, and of course, we agreed. 😆 It was at that moment that I realized she didn't just come with us for errands. She actually wanted to treat us that afternoon. 😍
A burger may be just a simple snack. It's something we can buy for ourselves anytime. But somehow it just feels different when it is someone else who is buying it for you. Maybe because you know that it's coming from their own pocket. They could have bought something for themselves or even saved the money. But they chose to treat you instead.
I remembered the same feeling whenever my dad treated us before. There were days when he gave us the benefit of the doubt and let us choose what we wanted. And those days, it just felt like the world was ours.
My mother-in-law also let us choose which burger we wanted because there were many options. My hubby immediately chose the most expensive one. 😂 And my mother-in-law didn't disagree at first.
And I thought... She has a lot of money. 😆 But then she started counting how many burgers we were going to buy. Maybe she suddenly realized how much everything was going to cost. 😂
While they were waiting for the burgers, I decided to buy some dried fish first. The dried-fish stalls were just a few steps away from the burger stall, and there were so many choices. There was daing, tuyo, anchovies, danggit, and many others.
It's actually hard to choose when you're standing in front of so many options. 😅 But you can't take too long because the seller is patiently waiting for your decision. Hahaha.
So, I just chose two kinds... Which are daing and anchovies. After paying, I went back to the burger stall and joined them while waiting.
The night market was quite busy. There were many people walking around, and almost every vendor seemed busy serving customers and arranging their products. After a few more minutes, they finally handed us our burgers.
My mom held them first while we continued our errands. We still needed to buy some snacks for Ryzen to bring to school. We then went inside the mall and passed by the makeup section. And this part made me remember how different my life is now.
When I wasn't married yet, I could spend quite a bit of time looking around this section. I would check the lipsticks, blush, mascara, and other things that caught my attention. But now that I have my own family, my priorities have changed.
I usually just walk past these displays and head straight to the grocery section. Food and other household items are my priority.
No more makeup hauls. No new lipstick just because I like the shade. No new blush. No new mascara.
Well, at least not as often as before. 😂
Now, I'm already happy with the simple things I have that help me look presentable and feel beautiful.
We eventually finished our grocery run and reached the counter.
There was this cute little girl who was so friendly.
She even approached Ryzen, and the two of them looked so cute together. 🥰
After everything was packed, we headed home and ate our burgers from my mother-in-law. ❤️
❤️ Thank you for taking the time to read my little story! I hope you enjoyed it. 🥰 Until my next adventure! 👋
