Chromosome of normal eukaryotes occur in pairs and the two members of a pair are indistinguishable I.e like identical twins except for sex chromosome.
Significant of meiosis
- meiosis is important in gamete formation in sexual reproducing organisms.
- Two gamete unite to form zygote which divides mitotically to form an individual.
- The diployed number of chromosome ( in somatic cells) is reduce to half in the gametic cell, so that each gamete has a complete haploid chromosome set.
