I found these mealybugs on an ornamental plant in front of my house; true to their name, they are serious pests for many plants. At first glance, they look like bits of chalk or cotton clinging to the plant's stems—white and covered in a powdery dust. I am not sure if they are harmful to humans, and I certainly have no desire to touch them. Although tiny, they live in colonies; in the photos I am sharing, you can see a vast number of them clustered on a single stem. Despite their small size, they have a significant impact on plants—causing issues such as yellowing leaves, wilting shoots, and stunted growth due to the loss of phloem sap nutrients—so their presence should not be underestimated. The primary course of action is to immediately spray the plants with a pesticide; we must not let these insects take hold on our ornamental plants.
