Steemmonsters was introduced in 2018 on the Steem blockchain. For the next two years the transactions were all on the Steem blockchain. This included alpha, beta, and orb booster packs sales and open packs. The Steem-Engine was where these packs were able to trade over the counter outside of Steemmonsters. Same with DEC tokens there were tradable on Steem-Engine. As of today Steemmonsters.com still operates and connects players to the latest version of the game, renamed as Splinterlands.
On March 20th 2020 Hive forked from Steem. In less than three months later due to the continuous uncertainty with Justin Sun's acquisition of Steemit the developers of Steemmonsters decided to transfer the transactions of the game from Steem blockchain to Hive blockchain. The official date of transfer was done on June 1, 2020. Since then all Splinterlands' transactions were recorded on the Hive blockchain. Over the counter assets were traded on Hive-Engine and later on WAX and other platforms.
As of today the Steem blockchain has no association with the game and since Steem Engine was created by the same developers it has not been updated. While Hive Engine is thriving with transactions of Spinterlands trades occurring daily and any other token related to the hive blockchain.

Comparing both blockchains you can immediately notice how much activity Splinterlands has overall. Just Splinterlands alone is more than combined 19 of the other applications in both blockchains combined. +42k users in Splinterlands compared to the second highest in Steemt at a meager +4k users. An almost 10x more users in Splinterlands than Steemit!!!
