The POTUS held an impromptu press conference last week to extol the wonders of our current economy. The crown jewel of his achievement, he says, is that the GDP had grown 4.1% in the last quarter.
Since his numbers have been backed by the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (the above graph), I'll give one point to Trump. For now, we'll forget that he has started trade wars with almost every industrialized nation on Earth, his "HUGE" tax program didn't bring jobs back to America but instead was used to buy back stock and make the rich richer and that he is having to engage socialist programs to bail out Midwestern farmers (his most slobbery base) who are going bankrupt because of his "world class deal making". Let's forget all of that. For now.
This last quarter was good, Mr. Trump. Congrats.
However, let's also take notice that your best quarter so far would be the 5th best for Obama, as shown by the red line in the above graph. Trump's next best quarter was either matched or beaten another nine times during the Obama administration, as shown by the green line.
So, I suggest anyone who wants to claim that this is the best economic news in a century, print out this chart and keep it handy. Despite the current climate, truth and facts DO matter. Either their importance will return and rule supreme, or we will all be eating dirt while Derp Furor is telling us it's steak. Act accordingly.
Gawed bless Murika.
