Multiplication and Division Fact Families

Multiplication and division are inverse of each other, very same way as addition and subtraction are opposite of each other. As we done addition and subtraction fact families in 3rd grade math, similarly we will find the multiplication and division fact-families in grade 4 math.

For example consider the numbers 8 and 9; we can multiply them as 8 x 9 = 72 also 9 x 8 = 72; these are two multiplication facts about numbers 8 and 9. 

Now we can include the number 72 into fact family and we can write the division facts as 72 ÷ 8 = 9 also 72 ÷  9 = 8.

Now we can write a family of the facts for the numbers 8, 9 and 72 as shown below;

• 8 x 9 = 72
• 9 x 8 = 72
• 72  ÷  8 = 9
• 72  ÷  9 = 8
