Introducing the Concept of Area to 3rd Grade Students
Area is the surface enclosed inside the boundaries of any two dimensional surface. For example; we need to paint a wall then we have to find the area of the wall surface to be painted if we want to estimate the amount of paint used.
In elementary grades kids need to learn about this concept. The best strategy is to introduce a unit tile to kids, we can use paper strips and paper unit tiles with area of 1 square inches or 1 square centimeters. Kids can make their own very easily using paper and the ruler.
