One of my biggest issues with this method is the privacy that's associated with it. Sure it's public knowledge, but for example, people place all of their life savings into "savings accounts", but they have no idea that the bank actually lends all of that out (like 90%?) and profits on it... or even lends it back to you through a mortgage. So you feel like your money is safe earning 0.01 interest, while they profit and charge you all kinds of fees.
