Seven working ways to get rid of an unnecessary directory.
1. Restart the computer
If you do not have time to delve into the situation, just restart the computer. In many cases, after a restart, the problem folder can be deleted in the usual way.
2. Use the archiver
If, when you try to delete, Windows reports that it can not find the item to be deleted, the archiver can help you. Suitable 7Zip, WinRAR or a similar program. Run it and archive the problem folder, after selecting "Delete files after compression" option. The program should automatically erase the directory, and you will only have to delete the created archive.
3. Delete the folder through the administrator account
The inability to delete a directory can be associated with access rights. In such cases, the system requires a password from the administrator account or simply reports the lack of necessary rights. To work around this limitation, you will either have to enter the requested password immediately, or log in as an administrator and only then delete the folder.
4. Check the system for viruses
Viruses and other malicious software can also prevent the removal of the folder. Check the computer with an antivirus, then try to get rid of the directory again.
5. Check that there are no locked files inside the folder
Often, deleting a folder does not come out because the files attached to it are used by one or another program. Check whether such a conflict is very easy: open the directory, select the internal files and try to delete them. If the system refuses to delete one or more objects, unblock them using system tools or third-party programs. Then delete the folder itself.
6. Use the third-party file manager
If the standard Explorer refuses to delete the object, try doing this in a third-party file manager. For example, in Total Commander (Windows) or Commander One (macOS).
7. Delete the folder in safe mode
If other methods do not help, boot the computer in safe mode, find the problem directory and delete it.
