Ladies of Hive Community Contest #236 - My last vacation!
Hello to all the ladies in the Ladies of Hive community. I hope you are all doing well, enjoying great health and well-being. I am happy to participate in this contest, thanks to my friend @marivic10, where I can share my recent vacation with all of you.
To answer the first question of the contest, I would like to say that after a year of work, it is always gratifying to have the opportunity to enjoy a few days of vacation. It's healthy to have a break to relax and reconnect with yourself, and of course, to see friends who, due to distance and the daily pace of work, you don't see often.
Fortunately, after careful planning, I was able to take a week-long trip to Santa Clara. Cuba is blessed with beautiful places in most of its provinces, both for their natural beauty and for their architecture and traditions. Luckily, for this last vacation, I chose to go to the province of Villa Clara, located in the central region of the island.
This city was founded in 1689 by several wealthy families of the time, plus a priest and a governor, all originally from the coastal city of San Juan de los Remedios.
The city of Santa Clara flourished thanks to the public works carried out by the so-called benefactor of the city, Marta de los Ángeles Abreu Arencibia, whose name was erected in Vidal Park, the city's nerve center.
Just across from Vidal Park is another of Marta's works, the La Caridad Theater.
Walking through the streets of Santa Clara is a magical experience. The city's architecture is marvelous, as can be seen in this photo of the Cathedral of Santa Clara de Asís.
Right next to the cathedral is one of the most famous places in the entire country, El Mejunje de Silverio. This place hosts all kinds of culturally-related activities, and every Thursday there's a trova night.
I took advantage of the opportunity to have lunch at the Mejunje restaurant, which offers excellent Creole food at a very reasonable price. The experience is also very pleasant due to the ambiance of the place, filled with antique objects, books, vinyl records, tinkled cellos, and brooches.
And of course, after a delicious lunch, you have to have a good cup of coffee. Right at the back of the concoction, they make a variety of coffee styles. And it was wonderful to run into friends who were also visiting there, like my friend Annalie, a young singer from Guantánamo.
I loved walking down Santa Clara Boulevard, with its cobblestone streets and Art Deco-style shops. There are many small shops where you can buy things that I used as gifts for friends back home.
Another emblematic place in Santa Clara that is very central and that I was able to visit is Santa Rosalia, a place that was once a school and asylum for poor children and is now a recreational center where they offer artistic shows and a variety of cuisine.
Its people, its vibrant atmosphere, and the music that flows everywhere give this city the quality that anyone who visits it will want to return. I definitely plan to return as soon as I have the opportunity, and I encourage you to come and spend some quality time in this wonderful city as soon as you can.
