I can't really say how long I can stay without touching or using my phone, but believe me, I can stay hours without it. Not as if it is easy to do because my phone has become a very big part of me, you will always see us together. It even got to a time that immediately I wake up, I grab my phone, it's always the first thing that comes to mind, even when I'm yet to do my morning devotion you will see me already on it, pressing and being serious with it. Even when there's no particular thing to do,I pick it up and begin to just surf and scroll through the Internet.
Like I said earlier, my phone has become a very great part of me, and trust me I do a lot of things with it. I use my phone to write, to post, to engage, to call, to chat, to learn, to watch movies, to play games and you know, all of that. Most of the things I do in a day have everything to do with my phone. I spend so much time on my phone, but then, along the line I began to call myself back to attention, it shouldn't continue like this. That was how I began to learn to put it under control, nobody told me, nobody taught me, I just don't want my phone to be the one in control, I should be in control.
And one of the things I've been doing is to always pray and do little things first in the morning before reaching out for it. No matter how small, I must do something first, except if it's very important that I use it first or that it was a call that woke me up. Aside from that too, I have days in a month that I set aside, and on those days I intentionally reduce the time I spend on my phone. I would have even make it to an extent to not even make use of it at all, or just for calls alone, but then I've promised myself to be more active in hive this year, so what I do is to engage on hive, make a post, do whatever I need to do, attend to messages I can attend to and then, I drop it.
Surprisingly, it has been helping me, especially having to take my eyes away from the screen and concentrating on me, the people around me and my environment. You know, there's just something pleasing and comforting knowing that I'm not pressured to reply to everyone, there are times.i even go as far as turning off my notifications, it gives me a very good time to sit myself down to think, to gist, rest, or have fun with people with the notifications buzzes to distract me.
Not as if I'm saying phones are bad, nah, of course they are very good device, one that you must own or have, it has helped me in countless ways and countless times and I'm grateful to technology for it. But then, there's a huge difference and the line can be very thin, I mean between using or owning a phone and allowing the phone to use or own you. Your phone cns be in control of you without you even realizing it.
So about if I can stay without my phone, definitely. I can. Not as if it's that easy, I've just found down ways to navigate around it. But then, we need to realize that it's important that we put it under control sometimes so we can be able to as well focus on our environment, the people and even ourselves.
