What a wonderful topic this is; I really had to take my time to think things through and see who's the best fit for me. I mean, according to the topic, if I were to ever receive an invitation to a lavish/grand masquerade meetup organized by the ladies of hive.
So, while going back and forth in my thought and trying to find a perfect match for myself, Maya Angelou seems to hold the strongest and biggest part of me. And it's not even what you're thinking; maybe based on what you know of and have heard of Maya Angelou, I wouldn't show up with a pen and a notebook and start giving everyone some English examination and tutorials—nah, far from it.
I'm choosing Maya Angelou for a more personal reason. Yeah, Maya Angelou happens to be someone who has a special and unique way of changing how you see things, and most times in the simplest way. She has her way with words and is very good with words. And for someone like me who enjoys writing too, I've come to see and understand that words go beyond just letters.
Words can be very powerful. I'm sure a lot of us must have heard this phrase, "Pen is mightier than sword." And have you ever sat down to think about it? It shows and tells how powerful words can be, either written or said. Words can comfort a hurting soul, words can challenge your thoughts, they can tell your story, they can remind you of your worth, and they have the ability to keep you going, and this is the power of words that Maya Angelou knows so well that made her speak about different things ranging from experiences, courage, dignity, and the like.
And for my outfit, it would be an elegant purple gown and a well-detailed masquerade mask, some classy accessories, and I would be sure that I would have a book in hand and a feather-like pen. Not a screaming kind of appearance, nah, just something simple but elegant, something that speaks for itself without me doing too much. A simple masquerade outfit where my face is hidden behind the mask yet still reveals who I really am.
So that's it for me, honoring the woman who represents something meaningful and has inspired me greatly while also reminding me that everyone has a story to tell, one that is worth hearing.
