This topic made me remember when we had the issue of cash in my country. There was no cash anywhere, that time i was still in a school and most of the shops around were doing run by old men and women who don't know about the Internet or online banking. Most of them don't have a bank account and even those who do, do not want to collect transfers because they don't know how to be sure you've really done the transfer.
Now, I love the idea of a cashless society. The world has gone digital today and is moving very fast, it would look a little bit unwise if we decide to remain at a point and not move with it. But then, thinking about it now I see that as much as it has great benefits, it also has challenges attached to it, especially in a country like mine, and for that reason I would want to say both should still exist.
The digital and cash mode of payment are good. Digital payment is very fast, reduces or takes away the fear and stress of carrying cash around, and it helps you to keep tracks of your spendings/transactions. Also, the cash mode of payment is good too, especially in local market and in places like the example I shared in my first paragraph... And it also works in places where there is no Internet or electricity. So, maybe for now both should still be in existence.
And like I said earlier, I love and prefer digital payment to cash. A lot of benefits are there, some of which I've listed above. And the world itself is becoming more digitalized, and we need to move with it too. We all know and can see the impact of technology in our everyday lives, and it's obvious that tech hasn't just come to stay, but will as well continue to improve.
So, for any government to say they want to implement digital mode of payment and erase the cash mode of payment, then they must first sort and solve the various issues on ground. I mean, there are lots of problems on ground right now that will make such a plan to fail woefully. At the moment, we are having issues with network, network can go for a whole 24hours you will almost think your phone is faulty. Also, there's poor power supply and that makes it difficult to charge phones and such, also there are a lot of elderly people and rural areas and well who are not digitally literate. So, seeing all of this and still forcing on us a digital mode of payment would only make life hard for us.
So for now, let both coexist. If you're in a place that allows for paying digitally, then go ahead with it. And if you're in a place that takes cash, then pay with cash. We shouldn't create new problems for ourselves when we haven't found solutions to the ones on ground.
