Happy start of the weekend friends of WEEKENDEXPERIENCES 馃挅
There are challenges that arise in our lives that we must fight to face and achieve. In my life, one of them has been sugar, which is why the following topic was chosen:
Could you cut out sugar permanently? Explain why or why not.
All my life I've been addicted to sweets, and to anything involving sugar. I love cakes, cookies, a pancake for breakfast, and a sweet cup of coffee. But I felt compelled to change this bad habit. Incredibly, there was an event in my country that forced me to completely give up sugar.
There were several months in which many basic products were scarce, and sugar was one of them. This caused my despair. We were forced to replace it with something different, like panela. I don't know what they call it in other countries. It's that brown stuff they sell in supermarkets that's supposedly used for sweetening. According to doctors, this is more natural, but I confess, I don't like it at all. We also used a natural product called stevia leaves, and I have to tell you, I didn't like them either 馃様
But the need for something sweet was so great that we had to resort to other resources to try to trick our bodies. But in my case, tricking my body is almost impossible. I imagine that's how people who use drugs feel; they feel that intense need to want to try that thing they love so much.
Those were very hard days feeling that need to want to try even a spoonful of sugar, we had to wait in endless lines to try to acquire these difficult products and you won't believe me but when I managed to get sugar my desperation was so strong that I would get home and pour myself a glass of water and add a lot of sugar and drink it, it was very satisfying to feel that flavor.
Then when everything was normalizing with the products I got to a point where sugar began to hurt me, if I ate something very sweet I got dizzy and headaches, the discomfort was so strong that I had to go to the doctor and after several tests the doctor suggested that I should consume sugar in small quantities or in the long run I could suffer from diabetes, this for me was terrifying since there are several in my family who suffer from this disease and it is something very strong, so immediately my brain lost the charm for sugar haha, although we deny it, incredibly we have everything in mind and just thinking about suffering from diabetes almost completely took away my craving for sweets.
So the answer to this question would be no, but I could reduce it quite a bit; eliminating it completely would be quite difficult. After that scare I went through, my current sugar consumption is very low compared to my life before. Now, sometimes I buy a cake or make one at home; I try not to make it so sweet.
I put very little sugar in my coffee in the morning, and it's incredible, but there are times when I crave it without any sugar. As I said before, it's a mental thing. It's like an addiction we have in our minds, and we can work on it to reduce it. Currently, sugar represents one of the most harmful things for our bodies, and I've personally proven it 馃様
