I read a couple of days ago in @m31’s article about Ursa Major which is also called the Great Bear. We also had a small conversation about tracing directions with stars and how common that skill is in general.
I hope, that that @m31 will not be mad at me for ruining her art while teaching you how to track the direction of the North with the Great Bear. I’ll tell you the same rule that someone taught me when I was a kid.
Step 1. Track the Great Bear
Step 2. Take the part of the Great Bear
Step 3. Find the directions of North Star
I guess there is much more other memory rules and ways to determinate the direction of the North, but for me, that rule is pretty easy to remember. It’s a pity that they don’t teach that kind of simple tips at school, because finding the right direction in some situations, could be a very important skill.
