I and my wife, have our ways to be very efficient when we have to. We even have our own term for that, so when we have to be efficient, we are doing it “as mercenaries”. We picked up that term because it’s representing very well almost every situation where you have to do something as quickly as you can. The mercenary has his mission and he is concentrated on executing the mission as well and quickly as possible, and after that he is returning to his base. Because every mercenary has their own list of missions that need to be done, we also usually make one.
Sometimes, we are mercenaries when we go to the grocery store and we know that our son is tired and a little bit inpatient. In those situations, we usually ask each other if that is the time to do the task as mercenaries. If yes, then it means that we are not spending extra time to explore other things that are not on our shopping list, we just focus on a list and follow it strictly.
Other situations when I usually use check lists and acting like a mercenary, is when I’m renovating something relatively large and it takes several days to do it. That way, it is easier to follow the schedule during the project. What is your way to keep things in order, perform well and stay focused?
