John 15:12-14
"This is My commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are My friends if you do what I command."
In John 15:13, Jesus is the best friend we could ever have. He loves us just the way we are β He knows everything there is about us and still accepts us completely. In fact, this is why He laid His life down for us on the Cross β so we could become acceptable and have an intimate relationship with Him through His sacrificial death ( Colossians 1:19β22 ).
Colossians 1:19-22
"For God in all His fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through Him God reconciled everything to Himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ's blood on the cross. This includes you who were once far away from God. You were His enemies, separated from Him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now He has reconciled you to Himself through the death of Christ in His physical body. As a result, He has brought you into His own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before Him without a single fault."
In Colossians 1:19, before Christ, we were alienated from God, which means that we were hostile to Him β rebellious, sinful enemies completely separated from His presence. Yet the Lord created us to be united with Him in a deep, intimate relationship. So when we talk about being reconciled to God, we mean that our relationship with Him has been restored through Jesusβ blood on the Cross.
