My daughter and I went on a walk in Linnaistensuo, a marshland and a protected area. She needed to take pictures of plants for her digital flora, an assignment given to the class by her biology teacher in May.
The marsh is about 1.3 km in diameter and round-shaped.
This was taken in the parking area at the end of the road.
These duckboards seem to have been rebuilt.
A bog bilberry (juolukka). One of the plants on the list to be included in the flora. It's similar to bilberry but slightly larger and the tips of the leaves are round.
That's a strange tree.
This marsh used to be much more open and with scarcely any trees only in the 1940s. It has dried to a degree because of ditches being dug over the decades. The plan is to build more dams in them to reverse the drying.

This is why you have to fell trees in the vicinity of the path. This one was taken down by a storm I guess.
It smelled great by the way. I think it was a combination of the fresh timber in the beginning and something about the environment. Likely some flower blooming.
A shining path
It seemed a bit wasteful to build the duckboards for walking on what looked like normal forest floor. But maybe it's different after heavy rains.
Almost out of the woods
Back to the parking area. There were more cars.
