I had leftovers from yesterday's dinner for lunch. Dropped by McDonald's to get a double cheeseburger and water to get more calories. Cheap and efficient. Cost me €2.7.
Then I went on a short drive around in the city center before picking up my daughter.
Rautatienkatu. The street that runs from the railway station in the south to the church park in the north (where you see the green).
A lot of the city centre was developed between the 1930's and the 1960's.
The town hall designed by Eliel Saarinen. Building completed in 1912. The idea at the time was to have all the departments of the town government in that building. The tower was built for drying the hoses of the fire brigade.
This is the first primary school in the city of Lahti. The city wasn't even founded until 1906.
The bus station is at beyond the crossing at the end of the street.
The ski jumping towers are in the distance.

This property lot next to the railway station is where a new multi-storey parking garage will be built. The embarrassing fact about the property lot is that the city was entitled to buying it at a price of one million euros in 2007 but did not use the right. Now it is offered for sale by a private property investor for over four million euros. There's heated discussion about it in the local Facebook group. Careless accusations of incompetence and corruption are flung. I think it was just a case of short-sightedness and explained by some uncertainty of the garage ever being possible to build. About 2500 people from the region commute to the capital city region which is an hour away by train on a daily basis so the parking space is sorely needed.
