The signs says "We're saving power. Due to the increased price of electricity we have unplugged unneccessary coolers for the duration of the energy crisis".

Clearly, the supermarket has a long-term fixed-rate agreement. At this moment and for the past week, power has been cheap thanks to all the wind power installed. If they paid the spot price, there'd be no reason at all to save power by unplugging the coolers.

They're demonstrating that they are willing to make a small sacrifice for the common good.

Finland exports 1102 MW at the moment. The daily market price is 0 €/MWh.

Wind power without adequate long-term storage or transmission capacity is problematic.


Not everything was all bleak and depressing.
