An ancient Greek legend describes the origin of the hyacinth. Two of the gods, Apollo and Zephyr, worshiped a handsome Greek boy named Hyakinthis. Apollo taught Hyakinthos the art of discarding. Zephyr, who was the god of the West Wind, was overwhelmed by jealousy and blew the disc back. He hit Hyakinthos in the head and killed him. From his blood rose a flower, which the god of Apollo called after him. "Hyacinth"
