Uruguay's sweet culture is varied and charming: from traditional alfajores to regional candies, biscuits, and chocolates. Many local products reflect a love for dulce de leche, smooth chocolate, and textures that are perfect for accompanying mate or coffee. Although some sweets are more artisanal and others more industrial, almost all of them convey that classic feeling of “a sweet treat with mate” that characterizes Uruguay.
I received a gift from Uruguay with a variety of sweets to try. Of course, I tried to taste them all at once to see which I liked best and which I liked least. Learning a little more about the culture, I learned that alfajores are an important part of the region, so I have three different alfajores, and I also tried some other different things, including nougat, which I found delicious. It's all chocolate-like, and I found it strange because I had only seen it in white, like milk chocolate with peanuts. The nougat-filled wafer was also very unusual to me, but it exists.
Among my favorites are the 9 de Oro, which is a pancake filled with arequipe, something that is also very typical of Uruguay. It is a sweet that is widely used and consumed in desserts and meals. Among the others, I think I liked them in general, although these sweets contain a lot of sugar and are processed. They would be fine for an occasion, but I think that because they contain so much sugar, they are quite cloying.
It was a good experience, and I am very grateful for this gift that came with much love from Uruguay to Colombia. I won't hide the fact that I would like to go and try some other things that are also important in the region on my own.

La cultura dulce en Uruguay es variada y encantadora: desde alfajores tradicionales hasta caramelos regionales, bizcochos y chocolates. Muchos productos locales reflejan el cariño por lo dulce de leche, el chocolate suave y las texturas que invitan a acompañar un mate o un café. Aunque algunas golosinas son más artesanales y otras más industriales, casi todas logran transmitir esa sensación clásica de “dulcecito junto al mate” que caracteriza a Uruguay.
Recibí un regalo desde Uruguay con una variedad de dulces para probar, desde luego hice un intento de probarlos todos al tiempo, para saber cual me gustaba mas y cual me gustaba menos, conociendo un poco mas de la cultura, supe que los alfajores son una parte importante de la region, así que tengo 3 alfajores distintos, y también probé algunas otras cosas distintas, entre ellos turrón que me pareció delicioso es todo como de chocolate y me pareció extraño porque solo había visto en color blanco como de leche con maní, el waffer relleno de turrón, también se me hizo super extra pero existe.
Entre mis favoritos están el 9 de Oro, que es un panque relleno de arequipe, eso es algo que también es muy típico de Uruguay, es un dulce muy usado y muy consumido en postres y comidas, entre los demás creo que me gustaron en general, aunque hay muchísima azúcar que contienen estos dulces que originalmente son procesados, estarían bien para una ocasión pero considero que que al ser mucho azúcar es bastante empalagoso.
Buena experiencia y bastante agradecida con este regalo que vino con mucho cario desde Uruguay hasta llegar hasta Colombia, no omito el hecho de que me gustaría ir y probar por mis medios algunas otras cosas que también tienen peso en la region.
