Indian elephant

The body length of the Indian elephant is 5.5 meters, height 3 meters, and weighs from 3 to 5 tons. The highest point of the body — the top of the head. Tusks are straight, there is only males that reach half a meter in length and weigh 20 to 25 pounds. Often males without tusks. The ears are much smaller than African elephants. On the front legs 5 and rear 4 hooves. The color is dark gray. 

 Wild elephants live in India, Pakistan, Burma, Thailand, Nepal and the Islands of Sumatra and Ceylon. Prefers light forests with dense undergrowth of shrubs and bamboo. In the summer of elephants take to the mountains on the wooded slopes. In the Himalayas they occur at the border of perpetual snow. 

Feeds on grasses, leaves, shoots, fruits. 

Live in herds of 15 to 100 individuals, where chairs old female. 

Reproduction is not seasonal in nature. Pregnancy 20 months. 1-2 calves are born. During the life the female gives up to 4 litters. 

Indian elephant is easily tamed, and quickly becomes docile and can perform complex work. Used in hunting and magnificent temple ceremonies. A large number of Indian elephants buy zoos and circuses around the world.
