Europe and specially Germany are having an energy shortage situation. The winter is about to start and the prices of different types of fuel and electricity are sky high.

Before the Fukushima nuclear disaster, Germany had 17 nuclear reactors. They generated 25% of the electricity of the country. Now, only 6 remain and 3 are being decommissioned in 1 month. After next year, Germany will have no nuclear reactors.

This is happening in a middle of an energy shortage. With the modernization of the nuclear energy industry, the safety standard have increased substantially. It would be a relatively safe form of energy generation, and importantly for certain groups, with few CO2 emissions. This has left Germany dependent on other countries for its supply of fuel

For these reasons, the plan to stop relying on nuclear energy was probably ill-advised and did not look into the future.
