Currently the amount of money paid for interest in the US Public Debt is about 253 billion US$ every year . This number is based on an current interest rates. Interest rates are going to increase due to the inflationary environment.

Once interest increases the yearly money paid to service the debt will increase. in 10 years this amount could be approaching 1 trillion dollars. At this point, unless there is a massive increase in GDP or the trade deficit is reduced, US could be in trouble paying the debt
