News: August 28, 2022. Ammonia Plant Closures in Europe

Ammonia is used as a fertilizer, which makes it important in agriculture (food production). Ammonia is produced mainly through the Haber process , which is a reaction between nitrogen and hydrogen gases at high pressures.

Hydrogen has to be obtained from methane (natural gas) in a process called steam reforming. Natural gas is very expensive at this time, leading to the closure of European ammonia plants.
