The answer is a clear no. Gas stations sell gasoline at margins close to 2%. They make profits by selling products inside, in their convenience stores.

Only about 0.4% of the gas stations are owned by the oil producers. They are usually owned by small independent businesses operating under licensing agreements.

The small businesses that operate gas stations are actually hurt when gas prices rise up too fast. These businesses are more profitable when prices are low because people more gas.
