A game that was born along with the NES in a world premiere that left many people amazed, innovation began to be a fundamental pillar in the world of video games, so the novelties had to become something almost daily for game developers of the time.

Baseball brought with it some uncertainty, because the adaptation of a real game and so popular in a video game console, could not be exactly what we video game fans expected, this title became the birth of the Play Ball on the screens of our televisions, the curiosity about how it had been programmed, how well it was adapted to reality, and what equipment it included were some of the questions that gamers and Baseball fans asked themselves at that time.

The game went from being an uncertainty to being very popular very quickly, the fact of being such a popular sport, and having been played by great baseball players of the time, removed doubts from all those gamers who questioned about the possible low quality of the video game, helping to change their perspective and giving a chance to this premiere in video game consoles.

Its impact was so great that it was even pointed out as one of the great influencers and responsible for the success of the NES, together with other great titles that were part of this select group. Baseball offered us the option of playing in individual mode against the CPU, or in games against a friend, with the classic 9 innings, and a screen with a level of detail more than well done.

We could choose from a total of 6 teams, although it was really reduced to 5 when we played in the 1 player mode, because at the time of choosing, there was always a team marked for the CPU, this fortunately was nothing to worry about, although something that at least personally I could notice, was a certain handicap when choosing certain teams, with some teams for some reason it was easier to make home runs, and with others we received many home runs or hits from the opponent.

When we were able to bat accurately, the game took us to a more distant screen where we could see the entire field of play to know what decisions to make, in the lower left side we had the classic record of strikes, balls and fouls, and in the lower right side we had a box that showed us the result of certain actions, whether it was a foul, a strike, a safe, a ball, or an out.

OUT.png
OUT EN FOUL.png

We had the option of batting normally or positioning our bat to make a bunt, we could also move within the batting area to the position that was most comfortable for us. Outs were given in the same way as in reality, in fact, everything in the game was perfectly adapted to a real environment.

VELOCIDAD.png

In each pitch, we could see the speed record, with this we could even get an idea of when it was advisable to hit the ball looking for a home run, because if the pitch was strong and centered, it was very likely that with a good contact with the ball, we made a home run, and if this was with full bases it was much better. Details as minimal as this, was one of the great things that the game left us, a fairly acceptable visual quality for the time and a gameplay that complemented everything we could imagine about a video game of this sport in a digital format, something that simply filled us with great satisfaction at the time of playing.

BASE.png

Something that could not be missing was the throw to the bases to look for the out if the opponent wanted to be smart, many times this disposition was key in the game, mainly when there were men on first and second base. At the moment of making the pitches in the defensive turns, we could make pitches at our will, being slow or very fast, with closed or open balls, looking for the deception towards the opponent, elements that were really amazing, because it was one of those games that had been so well designed, that practically nothing had escaped them at the time of programming.

Something that of course could not be missing in this video game, was a great scenario at the time of making or receiving a home run, the screen was colorful, and the stands overflowed celebration, adding the word Hume Run on the giant blackboard of the stadium, an element that motivated to make this achievement to satisfy our eyes with that peculiar animation.

In general terms, this, the first baseball game, was short of the word "good", because with a few minutes of interaction with the game, we could realize how great it could be, for many of us it was incredible to spend a few hours with our friends in a few games, even, for the most ingenious, we could make teams of 2, taking turns controlling to defend and attack, and generate one more element of excitement to this great game that showed us that great things could be done with a lot of effort.

PORTADA.png

OUT.png
OUT EN FOUL.png
