When social media made its appearance more than 10 years ago, the young generation back then could not wait to jump on the bandwagon. There was a sudden craze back then that had people creating an account and sharing anything and everything about themselves and their loved ones.

After that, it all started to entangle itself into a big ball of exposed web where everyone was willingly giving away information about who they were, where they were at and what they were doing and all that.

I fell into the trap of registering an account and sharing a couple of photos but very soon after, I began to fall out of it. I started asking myself, why should I bother to know what people are eating or doing? Why do I waste my time, scrolling page after page just to see random postings about what is in their thoughts or plates just so that they can earn a validation that their life is interesting?

I was also getting annoyed with most of the postings because I don't learn anything and I felt like a busybody, just aimlessly viewing into people's lives. I was thinking to myself, why am I wasting my time there?

Over the years, I created accounts for other social media platforms too, just to be a part of the "trend" but I never did got into the applications. It was pretty entertaining sometimes but after a while, I asked myself the same questions - why am I spending my time doing this?

Then, in 2018, I was introduced to Steem. I was skeptical at first but I was intrigued when I saw that one can earn from sharing their thoughts and knowledge. I registered and that was the beginning of my journey here.

I did ask myself along the way, why am I spending my time and energy here when I do not even care to do the same for the other social media platforms. I have to say that this place is different from those other social media platforms.

I learned quite a bit here about art, needlework especially and the information I gained from reading them is priceless. The most binding part of it is that there are communities of really good people who would be there and help you through in times of need whether it is in the Steem World or in real life, encouraging each other and inspiring too.

I don't have to reveal much about myself unless I want to and I can share about anything that does not need to be personal, unless I choose to. The earning part of it is enticing too even if it is just 1 cent. I think it is a much better deal than scrolling for hours viewing other people's lives and not earn a cent at all.
