My love hate relationship with Steemit probably originates from my day job (developing UX site functionality and workflow) but I can honestly say, there's so many things wrong with steemit that I just cant ignore and need to be mentioned.

Good content means content that stands the test of time. Steemit has created an environment that does the opposite. Yes, there are a lot of damn good posts in the "trending" section, however the ecosystem that has been created is only conducive to "viral" posts.
Imagine this. Imagine starting out as a minnow and creating a killer first post. Not only do you create a killer first post, but for your first month on Steemit, you create a few dozen pieces that are high quality original content. Now, because you dont have many followers, your posts receive a few dollars here and there and thankfully begin to build your following but in terms of monetary value, you receive nothing major. Then, as time progresses and you evolve into a dolphin and then whale, you're making 200+ per post! AWESOME! The caveat? All of those old posts you created will never bring any type of monetization after the payout period ends.
What does this mean? It means that while your post continues to get views and upvotes after the curation period ends, you will never see a dime. I came across a site similar to steemit but uses fiat as a way to payout. The curation period never ends. Users can do their own version of an upvote (I believe was called a hi-five) and directly pay the user for their content any time they see it, whether that be a month or a year after the content was posted. This ment that all of the top rated content was incredible. Imagine a steemit like that.
The concept of Whales, Dolphins and Minnows in regards to being curated - (I think its a great idea for curation, but a huge flaw for being curated) One thing that grinds my gears is when a whale will post something of little or no value and they get a ton of upvotes from "curators" just because the value of the payout on the post. Post is upvoted by more people = higher chance of making more money as a curator. This makes me want to follow whales just so I can upvote their posts at the 15m mark or so. I know this makes me sound crabby and one could say (you're just upset you're not a whale) but seriously think about this. If you dont know any better and think you get a better payout by curating content from Whales by seeing the value of a post being in the $400 range, why on earth would you bother with the Minnows? you dont. The result? minnows posts never get seen! nor do they get the payout they deserve for a possibly high quality original piece they created.
Moderation - Steemits long-term goal is to provide the best platform for censorship-resistant
publishing. Sounds awesome.. just like small/no government, unfortunately people abuse the system in place and its making it incredibly annoying for legit users. (see

Not knowing your voting power
Non-introduceyourself posts being added to the #introduceyourself section
Not being able to resteem old posts from other users
Having to host images on another platform
Not having a standard HTML mockup for posts.
Steemit has so much potential, but there's so much development needed to the UX and functionality.
I am really looking forward to the next major push of Steemit. Hopefully some of these issues will be resolved!
Disclamer - I understand that there are 3rd party non-endorsed apps to have some of these features, but would you really risk compromising your account by installing a 3rd party app for this?
I also understand that Steemit pushed a 2017 roadmap including some of these features. Problem, it's no longer 2017 and half of them arent completed..
