According to researches, the Hatti's first lived in Zonguldak in 2500 BC. Then Zonguldak was conquered by the Hittites.
In later years, the Persians conquered Zonguldak. After Alexander the Great defeated the Persians, Zonguldak was ruled by the Pontus kingdom. Zonguldak is an important city for the kingdom of Pontus because it is a port city in the Black Sea.
After the fall of the Pontus kingdom, Zonguldak began to be controlled by the Roman Empire. In 1084, Zonguldak was conquered by the Seljuk State. And the Turks started to settle in Zonguldak and its surroundings. But later Zonguldak was conquered by the Genoese.
In 1460, Zonguldak was conquered by the Ottoman Empire. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, Zonguldak, Turkey has become a city of the republic.
