According to researches, the first community living in Mugla is Karya community. For many years, Mugla was managed by the Karya community. In the following years, Muğla was conquered by the Phrygian kingdom. However, due to the land suitable for agriculture, many countries tried to conquer Muğla. After the kingdom of Phrygia, Mugla became a city of the Lydian kingdom.
In the following years, Mugla was conquered by the Persians. After the Persians were defeated by Alexander the Great, they left Muğla. And Mugla has been ruled by the Macedonian Kingdom. In the following years, the Bergema Kingdom and the Roman Empire conquered Muğla.
In 1284, Mugla was conquered by the Turks. In 1391 the Ottoman Empire conquered Muğla. After the breakup of the Ottoman Empire, Mugla it has been a city of the Republic of Turkey.
